LAKELAND, Fla. (May 20, 2009) – Florida citrus growers and industry representatives should register now for the 2009 Florida Citrus Industry Annual Conference (FCIAC) to be held from June 24-26th at the Hyatt Regency Coconut Point Resort and Spa in Bonita Springs. Register online at www.flcitrusmutual.com or call (863) 682-1111.

In its fifth year, the FCIAC has become the premier venue for all Florida citrus growers, the businesses they support and other industry leaders to come together to discuss the issues impacting the future of Florida citrus. More than 500 people are expected to attend this year.

The 2009 Conference will once again feature top-tier Educational Sessions for attendees. The sessions – Florida’s HLB Situation in 60 Minutes; Labor, Immigration and Your Grove; Federal Orders: Can They Help Solve the Free Rider?; and The Future of Fresh Fruit Shipping – will delve in to four of the major challenges facing growers today.

The popular Citrus Industry Banquet will be held on Thursday night and will feature special guest speaker University of Florida Head Football Coach Urban Meyer. In his four seasons as head coach for the University of Florida, Meyer has guided the Gators to a pair of National Championships, two Southeastern Conference Championships and has posted the best record in the SEC during the last four years (24-8).

On Wednesday, several important industry meetings will take place at the Conference including Florida Citrus Mutual’s Board of Directors and the Florida Citrus Commission. On Friday, the Conference will host two events to raise money for the citrus growers’ state Political Action Committee – a fishing tournament and a golf tournament at the top rated Raptor Bay Golf Club. The will also be a Conference-long silent auction to benefit the state PAC.

Founded in 1948 and currently representing nearly 8,000 grower members, Florida Citrus Mutual is the state’s largest citrus growers’ organization. For more information, please visit www.flcitrusmutual.com.
